Recently, I had the pleasure of capturing Jenny McRae’s bold kitchen renovation in Five Points, Huntsville. Inspired by the classic, colorful charm of a French kitchen, Jenny incorporated unique elements that truly make the space her own. Her kitchen features glass shelves, stunning dark cabinets from IKEA, and sleek Café appliances. And of course, there are those delightful decorative touches from Anthropologie, a mutual favorite of ours. But what really makes this kitchen special are the personal nods to her Boston terrier, Basil, sprinkled throughout the space. It’s a kitchen that balances elegance with warmth, all while embracing color in a way that feels both timeless and fresh.
For the interior photography session, I wanted to ensure we captured the full scope of Jenny’s stunning kitchen renovation. I started with wide-angle shots to give a sense of the entire space, showcasing the layout and flow. Then, I moved in closer to highlight the details that truly make her kitchen stand out. From the colorful lamp to the intricate wallpaper and the thoughtfully selected knick-knacks from Anthropologie, each shot brought out the unique character of her kitchen. It’s those small, personal touches that really tie the room together, making it a true reflection of Jenny’s personality and style.
This is the fourth project I’ve photographed for the McRae family, and I’ve enjoyed every single one. From their engagement and wedding to their living room transformation and now this kitchen renovation, it’s been a privilege to document their journey. Jenny mentioned their next project will be updating their living room with a built-in bookcase, and I can’t wait to capture that next project. Working with repeat clients like Jenny is one of the best parts of my job—it’s all about building relationships and helping them tell their evolving story through photography.
