Alicia is a self-taught printmaker, full-time artist, and part-time outdoor educator. As a military spouse and outdoor educator, her art currently has two themes–military aviation and nature. She is currently based in Southern
Maryland.
Through planning Alicia’s session, I learned so much about her journey as an artist. I was in awe of her creative process, grasp of her brand, & where her true passion lies (but also knowing what pays the bills right now). Her goal for her session was to have bright and fresh images that she could update her website with & headshots to use when doing shows & education engagements.
We pulled apart the different steps she takes when creating a block print–from her inspiration board, to sketching, cutting, and printing–documenting it all. We had planned her session so thoroughly (and she was so organized and prepared!!) that we captured the whole process in less than an hour.
My love for branding photography is always evident when I walk into a professional’s studio and I get to witness their amazing art. I adore watching all their different processes, seeing how they use the different tools–and simply watching them be in their zone of genius. As a photographer, I get seeing an image in my head and knowing how I’m going to make it happen…but I just couldn’t wrap my head around having an image, taking pieces off a piece of rubber, and making a piece of art…it was simply amazing!! Then came the colors and the process of applying it to make it a print…it was a whole nother art!!
Needless to say, I came out of Alicia’s session thoroughly amazed at her, her inspiration, and her craftsmanship. Thank you so much for inviting me into your studio, Alicia!
