So much of what us service based business owners do is not tangible and can’t be literally explained in a photograph…but these aspects of our business is so important for us to talk about when interacting with our process and services.
If you do a lot of work digitally (I’m talking to you: graphic designers, website designers, photographers, coaches, & stylists!!), how do you take what you do and represent it in a photograph? We can add context to your brand session to give clues into your brand, services, and processes by looking at adding props, locations, and what you wear…adding many more layers than just a computer in front of your face!!
Give an inside clue of the process that you go through when you’re planning for your client. Let your audience inside that big ol brain when you’re planning for your client project! Consider bringing swatches that give you inspiration, sketching on paper (instead of on Illustrator), cut outs from magazines, outlining on a white board or poster paper.
Make a list of the steps that you take your clients through. Pick out some of the tangible parts of the process that could be photographed & look for the non-digital aspects of your process.
Does part of your process include pulling together information? Let’s see the “mess”! Does your client have to fill out a questionnaire or worksheets?…print them out!! Let’s see them! Think worksheets, questionnaires, notebooks, charts/graphs
You may have to go back in time and think about the tools we all used before they were made digitally…are there tools that are “old school” but represent what you do digitally? Let’s dust them off! Do you design on an ipad? Well maybe it’s time to pull out that sketchbook and pencil!
What are the final products that you create…think all the way down the line. Let’s get people thinking about what the end product looks like when you solve their problem. Some examples could be:
