Monique is a colorful abstract painter who works with gouache paints to create her colorful pieces of art. Monique and her family are based in the Washington D.C. area and she and her husband both currently serve in the U.S. Air Force.
The motivation behind this shoot was to have a set of very intentional brand images that showcased Monique’s creative process as she prepares to create a piece of art. The end result for these images would be a website, newsletter, & social media content that all had the bright and light feeling of her creations.
As we planned this brand session, we created a shotlist that took us through her process before, during, and after creating her paintings. Monique’s shotlist looked like this:
We had a big shot list and I wanted to create a very diverse set of images for Monique that still looked very cohesive and were recognizable as “her” and “her brand”, even though we were only going to be in one location. We accomplished this by having her change often, creating different scenes in the same space, and moving around props to fill out the space and keep the colors consistent throughout.
The location for her session was very important because it needed to be neutral enough to compliment the bright colors (both warm and cool tones) in her paintings. After looking at some options like AirBnB in the D.C. area, we decided our best option would be The Lightbox in Annapolis, Maryland. There were many different spaces for us to work in with come very neutral props to work with.
Monique did a fantastic job with the props that she brought to her session (she literally had a truck full). We had enough props to turn our clean location into a space that truly looks like it belongs to her. She brought many books, tools, finished paintings, and plants to fill out the space. Throughout her session we moved props around so that it all looked cohesive and full…but with a clean look.
