John and Alan are the hearts and minds behind Listen Local, a passion project born in 2015 from their friendship and love for music. Both saw the opportunity to help support, promote, and showcase the phenomenal musical talent of Huntsville and Northern Alabama. They seek to transform the live listening entertainment culture of their local area, hoping to do their part to ensure that a rich musical culture is sewn into the fabric of Huntsville’s growth in the coming years.
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Apollo 11 moon landing, The Music from the Moon songwriting contest was designed to celebrate the incredible human achievement represented by the moon landing. With many local sponsors backing the contest–U.S. Space and Rocket Center, Urban Engine, Mid City District, Fame Recording Studio, and TonewoodAmp–Listen Local wanted their contest and their message to far exceed the local Huntsville community.
This shoot couldn’t have been pulled off without the collaboration of many local creatives. Anna Lewis, the heart behind Native or Not, a Huntsville small business resource, helped to coordinate this marketing shoot for Listen Local. Anna helped to secure the U.S. Space and Rocket Center as a shooting venue, bringing in Nancy Finnegan to do hair and makeup for the artists, photography, and video by Woodnote Media.
