Northern Neck Popcorn Bag is a brand that I’ve been working with for a little over a year now. They specialize in gourmet popcorn in their retail stores as well as their e-commerce Shopify online shop. Till now, I’ve been working with Terri and her team to create great marketing images of their products, photographing mostly for their social media and website as they overhauled their imagery. Going into their shoot we had four storylines that they wanted to capture: Merchandising of the store, Client Experience, Customers interacting with the popcorn, & Headshots of the management team.
The one big gap in their imagery was capturing the customer experience as they shopped in their stores. Walking in, seeing (& smelling) all the flavors, sampling, bagging, and being handed your (BIG) bag of goodies…it’s all the Northern Neck Popcorn Bag’s signature experience while you’re in the stores. It was important to me to capture this experience from both the customer’s perspective as well as behind the scenes.
Because all the images that I’ve created for Northern Neck Popcorn Bag have all been photographed in the studio till now, another big gap that we saw was their products in the context of people. Terri requested images of customers interacting with the popcorn–tasting, sharing, laughing.
Even after working together for over a year, I’ve only met Terri and Rob in person once while meeting to grab product from them during the dead of summer (aka it’s too hot to ship chocolate covered popcorn and it still look nice enough to photograph). Usually they ship me product, so our interactions have been based on emails and phone calls. This being our first in-person shoot, we made sure to capture them as a team and individual headshots.
